Russia remains the main trading partner of Ukraine
Despite the
trade war between Russia and Ukraine, Russia remains the main trading
partner of Ukraine. Russia's share in the total exports of Ukraine
was 12.7% in 2015. Export of Ukraine in Russia fell by 50% in 2015
compared to 2014 year. This deadlock. Ukraine can not find a
replacement for Russia at the same time in a trade war Ukraine
reduced exports..
The Association Agreement between Ukraine and the
EU has not provided Ukraine the growth of exports to the EU. Export
of Ukraine in the EU fell by 23% in 2015 compared to 2014.
The problem is that Russia remains the
largest importer of Ukraine. Russia's share in the total imports in
Ukraine amounted to almost 20% in 2015. Imports from Russia dropped
by 60% in Ukraine in 2015 compared to 2014. Falling imports from
Russia to Ukraine was the result of what is now Ukraine buys Russian
natural gas through the European offshore. Formally, Ukraine buys
Russian gas to the EU. Although Ukraine in this case pays 20-25% more
than if bought directly in Russia.
The future of trade between Ukraine and
Russia intricate and incomprehensible. To trade with Russia in a
trade war is absurd, but not can not be traded.
The Ukrainian
government does not know what to do and only promises growth in
exports to the EU as an alternative to Russia. But this is only a
promise. During January 2016 again fall in exports from Ukraine to
the EU. During January 2016 the export of Ukraine to the EU fell by
11% compared with January 2015. The Ukrainian government is waiting
for a miracle.
